Going Green – Catering in Tampa

Since today is Earth Day, I figured I would chime in about the trend of living green and how it is slowly making its way into the catering world. Good Food Catering Company is working in the Tampa Bay market to become the premier catering company for weddings and events, and part of that mission is to stay in front of trends, not behind them. As Kermit the Frog so eloquently stated, “it’s not easy being green,” which applies well to green catering.
The first reason is that it isn’t cheap. Conciously making an effort to conserve resources, use sustainable food sources and seek out biodegradable disposables costs money. It’s much more cost effective to go with the status quo, which includes inexpensive plastics and styrofoam. The second reason is that it isn’t easy. While we can source almost any meat, cheese or disposable paper plates from many different distributors and wholesale markets, sources out organic and sustainable foods are few and far between in the Tampa market.
One unique way Good Food Catering found to help our clients with green catering is through bamboo dinnerware. While at the Catersource conference and tradeshow in Las Vegas earlier this year, we came across a company called Bamboo Studio, which produces a full line of bamboo dinnerware, including plates, trays, flatware and skewers. As mentioned earlier, using this for your event will not be the least expensive for dinnerware, but if you are looking for a way to be stylish, have a unique event and also be green, then bamboo is the way to go. Give us a call and we’ll talk about green catering for your next event.
